The FA plan to include 15 Premier League category one academies and Newcastle in the EFL Trophy - formerly known as the Johstone's Paint Trophy - next season.
However, the decision has not gone to plan so far, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham all withdrawing their academy sides from the competition.
The competition was previously just for League One and League Two clubs, but this was an attempt to increase interest in the competition and help the country's top youngsters play competitive football.
Places will now be offered to Championship clubs with category one academies and these teams include Aston Villa, Fulham, Norwich and Reading.
The decision has disgruntled fans of League One and League Two teams, as the increase in competitors means a that there is reduced chance of getting to the final at Wembley.
Do you think the competition will help English youngsters, or is it a waste of time?
