Netherlands star Depay overtakes Van Persie as country's leading marksman

The forward struck his 52nd goal for the national side in the World Cup qualifier against Lithuania, surpassing Robin van Persie's long-standing record.
Van Persie had previously topped the charts with 50 goals, but Depay's latest strike ensures he now stands alone at the summit. The milestone is a reward for his consistency in front of goal since making his international debut in 2013.
Depay now leads a distinguished list of Dutch greats. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar sits third with 42 goals, followed by Patrick Kluivert on 40. Arjen Robben and Dennis Bergkamp are joint-fifth, each with 37 strikes for the Oranje.
The 31-year-old's record underlines his enduring importance to the national team, and with more qualifiers to come, Depay will have the chance to extend his tally and put even greater distance between himself and the chasing pack.
