Musiala to be out for several months after undergoing successful surgery

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala underwent "successful" surgery on Monday for a "fractured fibula as part of a dislocated ankle" suffered at the end of the first half of last Saturday's Club World Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain, meaning he will be out "for the next few months", his club said.

"Jamal Musiala underwent successful surgery after returning from the Club World Cup. The 22-year-old attacker suffered a fractured fibula in the quarter-final between Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain in the United States as part of a dislocated ankle and was substituted at half-time," Bayern's medical statement said.

The German international will begin "the first rehabilitation sessions on Tuesday and will not be available for the German champions for the next few months," the Bavarian club's statement, published on its official website, added.

Musiala, a Bayern Munich and Germany international, suffered the serious injury in the final moments of the first half against PSG in Atlanta on Saturday when Gianluigi Donnarumma, the France goalkeeper, dived to catch the ball as the midfielder came forward and his left leg was crushed by the body of the 1.96m (6ft 4in) goalkeeper.

The 22-year-old has already made 207 appearances for Bayern, with 64 goals and 31 assists, and has also made 40 appearances for Germany, for whom he is also an undisputed first-choice international.
