For much of his career Murray journeyed round the lower leagues, playing for current club Brighton in League One and the Championship before moving to Crystal Palace and finally getting his shot.
Now back at Brighton, he has spoken to 'BT Sport' about the doubts he had on whether this time would ever come.
"Yeah definitely. I watched Match of the Day growing up every week and I'm talking until I was 29-years-old," he said.
"Luckily I got my chance. I think the first season in the division was looking over at other teams and thinking 'wow, you've finally made it'.
"It took a while to settle in and I think I believe in myself a little bit more now. I think me as a footballer, throughout my career, I've always taken a season to settle in as I step up and step up and step up.
"It took me a little bit of time in the Premier League. I came back from an ACL and got one goal in I think six months at Crystal Palace. It wasn't great but I got to grips with the Premier League, started to understand what it's about because it's very different to the lower leagues."
