The first ever player to score 100 goals for Brighton was striker Tommy Cook; a war veteran and a cricketer, with a museum tribute in his honour in his home town.
Nearly 100 years later, the second man to reach the landmark, current striker Glenn Murray.
At 35 years old, Murray continues to dispell the doubts about his age, by single handedly firing the 'Seagulls' into the remit of Premier League stability.
Speaking of his achievement predeccessor, Murray told 'The Daily Mail': "Yeah, I know all about him now. He was a cricket all-rounder, wasn’t he? See, he is already better than me. I must be rubbish as I can only play one sport."
A very humble footballer, Murray is never one to bask his achievements, and actively shirks the 'modern footballer tag'. He added: "‘I am just a normal bloke.I take my kids to parties, put the bins out."
Having played at almost every level of the English game, Murray is now consistently plying his trade in the top flight, and it is safe to say that he does not look out of place.
Yet in spite of being surrounded by the glamour of the Premier League, Murray is easily satisfied, explaining that simply scoring goals is enough to keep him happy.
Murray added: "Scoring a goal is the best thing in the world because it’s the only thing you can’t control or predict. Most things in life you can work for or buy. But I can’t guarantee a goal, can I?And when it comes I can’t give that feeling to anyone. Only I can feel it and know it."
At present, the veteran has already scored 7 goals in the opening 13 matches for Brighton, and, he will be hoping to continue this fine form, as he aims to help the 'Seagulls' enjoy another year of top flight football next season.
