Antoine Griezmann signed for Barcelona this summer to make up one of the best front threes in European football. However, and despite now being in June, the connection with Messi and Luis Suárez still hasn't appeared.
The data by ProFootballDB, BeSoccer's laboratory, says so. The Frenchman hardly ever finds the Argentine and Uruguayan, the latter two looking for each other more in a match.
Let's take the last match against Athletic Bilbao as a sample. Griezmann only received 4 passes from Messi in the whole match, a higher number than he got from Suárez, who only passed it to him once. On 17 occasions the Frenchman even got away from his marker.
But Griezmann doesn't try to elaborate himself into the elaborate play of the front three. The Frenchman only passed three times to Messi and another three to Suárez.
The poor connection is made more evident when we compare the numbers with the facts between Messi and Suárez. Both of them found each other 12 times, one more than Griezmann with his two teammates.
Despite having arrived as the big signing of the summer window, the front three have hardly been seen playing together. Injuries to Messi and Suárez have prevented it.
Thus, Griezmann, Messi, and Suárez have played a total of 22 matches together. With the three on the park, they have scored 34 goals, with the Frenchman scoring less (7).
With 8 matches until the season ends, the numbers are clear. Griezmann still hasn't fit in the partnership that Luis Suárez have formed in the last few years.
