In a suprising series of comments, Jose Mourinho has denied that he had any knowledge of the statement made by agent Jorge Mendes this week regarding his commitment to Manchester United.
The Portuguese would also go on to say that while he was unaware of his agent's words, he insisted that no one at the club cares more about it than he does.
Poor results (and even poorer displays) from Mourinho's Manchester United side as of late, has led to increased scrutiny about his tenure at Old Trafford, but the Portuguese has always maintained that he has no plans to depart any time soon.
Ahead of his side's trip to Spain to face Valencia in their last Champions League group stage match, Mourinho responded to questions asking for his thoughts on his agent's comments this week.
The Portuguese responded: "Which statement? No, I've nothing to do with the statement. It's Jorge's statement, not my statement."
When asked if he had any prior knowledge of the statement before it was released, Mourinho replied: "No, I didn't know. I didn't know at all and I don't care about it."
Mourinho's claim will come as a surprise to many, especially as he would later go on to echo his agent's sentiments, by insisting that he is the most devoted person to the Manchester United cause.
The Portuguese added: "...nobody in Manchester or connected with Manchester cares more about the club than me."
To attempt to draw any message from the manager's words would be difficult, as it is plausible that he was either trying to stabilise his position, or highlight that others at the club lack the same desire as him.
Both notions are lausible given Mourinho's tenency to lash out at the mentality of his stars in recent weeks.
