Jose Mourinho's story could well have been very different from the one we know today. The now Roma coach has had spells at big clubs such as Inter, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham, but his rivalry with FC Barcelona and Pep Guardiola will go down in history.
The 'Clasicos' of the time were always full of tension and controversy with the Portuguese on the Madrid's bench and the Spaniard on the other one. We will always remember those press conferences in which the digs were the most normal thing. But all this could have been different in 2008 when he almost signed for the Catalan team.
Barça contacted Mourinho in 2008 when the club's situation was not the best. In an interview with 'Vamos', the Portuguese recalled that the club asked him for an analysis of the situation at the time and confessed that, in the end, his arrival was not agreed.
"I was asked to make an analysis of the situation of the team in an moment of transition, difficult. The person who asked me to do it was someone important within the club. I did it, but that's all. Afterwards, fortunately for me, the history is there," said the Roma coach.
Mourinho is one step away from making history again after reaching the Conference League final, Roma's first in 31 years. If he wins the title, the Portuguese would be the first coach to win the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.
