More than two million at stake in the Community Shield

The competition which since 1909 brings together the winner of the Premier League and the winner of the FA Cup has McDonalds as its main sponsor which contributes almost one million pounds. The other million comes from earnings which the competition itself generates.
The two teams which are fighting for the trophy this year, Liverpool and Manchester City, will get a share of 1.25 million pounds.
The rest of the money is distributed among all the teams which have taken part in the FA Cup throughout the season. Each one of the 124 teams which take part from the first round onwards receives 5,000 pounds to support social projects in the community.
McDonalds almost does it bit by holding a competition called Grassroots Football awards. People can be nominated and it is given to 13 unsung heroes every year, whether they are people who wash the kits, prepare the ground or actually play themselves. The 13 winners pick up their award on the Wembley turf at half-time.
In 2017, the teams which played in the Community Shield, Chelsea and Arsenal, decided to donate all their prize money to the victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster. Grenfell is located just five miles from Wembley and 79 people lost their lives.
A woman will feature among the refereeing team for the first time in this competition thanks to Sian Massey-Ellis' presence as assistant referee.
