The Australian opened the scoring after six minutes, before doubling up with a fine free kick 15 minutes from time to seal the game. It lifts the ‘Terriers’ from bottom of the table to 14th.
Mooy’s goals provided some rare action points in a game devoid of excitement. The away side dominated Wolves on and off the ball, using their physical approach to ensure Nuno Espiritu Santo’s side never felt comfortable on a cold afternoon.
The Wolves front three of Cavaleiro, Costa and Jimenez were starved of service, at least until the introduction of Adama Traore, but even then they were not able to impact the game. The Mexican came closest, but his header was cleared off the line - only 1.8cm short of the target.
Joao Moutinho was replaced at half-time after an anonymous performance, and Ruben Neves looked a shadow of his usual self in the middle of the park. Even presented with a dead ball situation from which he is normally so reliable, he contrived to miss the target, twice.
His positioning has also been called into question, after he appeared to make little effort to block the ball on the far end of the wall when Mooy fired home the second. Rui Patricio got a hand to it but could not prevent the ball from hitting the back of the net.
After such a bright start to the season, Wolves find themselves slipping down the table, while Huddersfield appear to have finally found a winning formula. Wolves find themselves in 11th, the ‘Terriers’ only three places behind ahead of Monday night’s game between Newcastle and Burnley.
