Modric investigated for falsely testifying in Mamic case

According to 'AFP', the 31-year-old is being investigated for giving what has been considered to be a false testimony in the corruption case against former Dinamo Zagreb President Zdravko Mamic.
Croatian prosecutors believe that Modric's statement showed differences from the one that he made during the investigation against Mamic in 2009, something which could be considered perjury, according to Croatian newspaper 'Vecernji List'.
To give a false testimony as a witness is a crime in Croatia and is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
The details that Modric changed in his statement relate to dates and contracts that he signed with Mamic, and which Mamic then benefitted from.
Mamic is on trial, along with three other defendants, for supposedly embezzling €15million from player transfers to foreign clubs. Among the transfers he is said to have benefitted from are Modric's switch to Tottenham in 2008 and Dejan Lovren's move to Lyon in 2010. Modric's transfer allegedly allowed him to avoid €1.5million in tax.
Modric has come under fire for his role in the affair, especially in his homeland, where walls have been daubed with graffiti labelling him "Luka Mamic".
