Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic scored twice to give Serbia victory over neighbours Montenegro in their historic first meeting.

The two former Yugoslav Republics used to compete as one nation and even reached the 2006 World Cup together.

However the two countries became independent shortly afterwards and met each other for the first time on Thursday night.

Although the match was played under tight security, the two sets of fans were in friendly spirits during the UEFA Nations League match.

The striker took his tally to the season to nine goals in ten games for club and country, in what has been a remarkable start to the campaign.

The former Newcastle man fired in and 18th minute penalty and stroked in a late second after Serbia had been wasteful in front of goal.
