Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid's goalkeeper, expressed his doubts about Éder Militao's sending off in the ninth minute of the match against Levante. He said that the play "is interpretable" and pointed to the action as a turning point that made it "complicated" for them in a game they lost 1-2.
"From here it's difficult. The first one is interpretable. I don't know if it's the right one or not. I don't think that he deliberately knocked the player down and Rafa was close by. To give a red card... he has a goal-scoring opportunity, it's true, but it's a matter of interpretation. As for the penalty, I don't know if it was inside or outside," he commented on 'Movistar LaLiga'.
"He gave the red card after seven or eight minutes and it's complicated. We fought, we had a few chances on the counter, but we didn't finish. It's a shame to concede after a corner. Little was played, including extra time, which was not worth anything," he analysed.
"We can't talk about a bad game or a good one. We had to fight because we were down to one early on. Levante were on a good run and playing with one less for 80 minutes is very difficult," he continued.
Courtois insisted that the added time was not enough: "We tried, but they play well and it was difficult to take the ball away from them. Up front we lacked the cross or the good play to create danger. In the end, we only played one of the four minutes," he commented.
A defeat that leaves them seven points behind LaLiga leaders Atlético Madrid, even with two games in hand. However, the Belgian is not giving up on the chance to retain the title: "You always have to fight. La Liga goes on until May. They keep winning and they're at the top, that's the way it is. We have to try to react, win our games and hope that the others lose," he said.
