After a long wait, Mexico finally played a friendly and it was against Iceland. The match was quite entertaining, but the game was marred by offensive chanting.
The game had to be stopped in the 62nd minute for five minutes due to a homophobic chant made by Mexican supporters every time the Iceland keeper took a goal kick. They chanted "puto" (fa**ot) and that led to the game being stopped.
Fortunately, there were no further stoppages once the game was halted. The threat of abandoning the game if there were any further instances was a good enough deterrent.
On the pitch, Mexico came from behind to beat Iceland 2-1. An Edson Alvarez own goal put Iceland ahead, but a second half brace by Hirving Lozano gave Mexico victory.
