Messi won the Olimpia de Oro award again

Footballer Lionel Messi was awarded early Thursday morning with the Olimpia de Oro, Argentina's most important sports award, by the South American country's Circulo de Periodistas Deportivos, who are a group of sports journalists.

At the sixty-ninth edition of the Olimpia awards held in Buenos Aires, the PSG striker, who has just won the World Cup with the 'Albiceleste', was named as the sportsman of the year.

Messi, who did not attend the ceremony, as he is resting in Rosario (Argentina) with his family, has already won the award in 2011 and 2021. The PSG striker has just won the World Cup in Qatar 2022 at the age of 35 after a career full of collective and individual titles.

In his 17 seasons with Barcelona, Messi won ten La Liga titles, eight Super Cups, seven Copa del Rey, four Champions Leagues, three European Super Cups and three Club World Cups, to which he has added a Ligue 1 title and a French Super Cup with PSG. He also won the Ballon d'Or seven times and was twice proclaimed best player at the World Cup: in 2014, when Argentina lost the final to Germany, and in 2022, when the 'Albiceleste' won their third title in history.

After winning the Copa America with the 'Scaloneta' in 2021 and the Finalissima in 2022, against Euro champions Italy, Messi signed this Sunday the only trophy he was missing: a World Cup.
