Like all big award ceremonies, 'The Best' gala brought with it an undeterminable number of declarations and opinions about who deserves to win, or at least, be nominated.
One of those on the list this time was Mauricio Pochettino, the Argentinian manager of Tottenham attended the ceremony and he did not miss the opportunity to defend Messi. ''For me Leo is number one'', declared the Spurs boss, lamenting that the forward was no on the list of nominees for the main prize.
''Logically, he always deserves to be nominated and he deserves to win, to have a player like Leo is always a pleasure to watch and for football itself'' said Messi's compatriot.
On more than one occasion Pochettino's name has come up as a potential manager for the 'Albiceleste'. With Messi not wanting to be picked for international duty at the moment, who knows if this would be the case if Pochettino was in charge?
