Messages of congratulations came flooding in for Leo Messi immediately after the Argentine was awarded with his sixth Ballon d'Or. A multitude of displays of affection and admiration arose, and one of the most eloquent was that of Gary Lineker.
The former Leicester and Barcelona player and a usual in British media had a lot of praise for Messi, who he described in footballing terms as an almost ethereal entity.
"Messi wins his sixth Ballon d'Or. His numbers are truly extraordinary. He's head and shoulders the best player in world football. He plays a game that is both joyous and incomprehensible to mere mortals. The award is totally meritorious," Lineker said.
In addition to this, a compilation of 'BT Sport' on some of the Argentinean's best actions, the Englishman asked people to forget about disputes and seize the moment: "I know I tweet too much about him, but for God's sake, let's enjoy this absolute genius while we can".
