Leo Messi's contract at Barca runs out in June 2021. What will be of him after that date is a question mark.
Joan Laporta, one of the people in the running to become president of the club, told 'Catalunya Ràdio' that part of his project revolves precisely around the number 10.
"I would help Leo. He loves Barca. We will make him imaginative proposals. I trust he will wait for a new president to decide his future", the candidate said.
In fact, Laporta confessed that he has a very good relationship with Messi. "I talk to him regularly, we have contact, although I haven't talked to Messi for a long time now. To talk about his renewal I need to have the authority of the presidency. I would make him a proposal that he can comply with. And he knows that I promise what I fulfill...", he continued.
Laporta doesn't see a Barca without Messi. "The club would survive, but it is better that he stays. It won't be a question of money, it will be a question of love", he opined.
Lastly, he spoke about a possible return of Neymar to the Camp Nou. "I won't say anything that could destabilise the team. It is normal that he says he wants to play with Messi again because they are friends", he limited himself to saying.
