Having arguably the world's best player in your team is always an advantage, but even more so in finals, when he tends to make sure that the opposition must score at least twice to emerge victorious.
In the 12 seasons that he has been playing for Barcelona, Messi has featured in 17 one-legged finals and nine two-legged affairs. In total, he has won 20, 14 of the first type and six of the second.
The first of those 27 goals came just under a decade ago in the Copa del Rey. Athletic Bilbao were the victims as they fell to a 4-1 defeat, despite Gaizka Torquero actually giving them the lead.
It proved a case of third time lucky for the Argentine, who had previously faced Espanyol and Sevilla in the Spanish Super Cup and the European Super Cup respectively without finding the net.

In fact, the stats suggest Messi has something of a soft spot for the Copa del Rey, just as his club does. If the 30-year-old finds the net against Sevilla at the Wanda Metropolitano he will become the player to have scored in most finals, with five.
Messi also demonstrated his love for the competition in last year's final, scoring one of his side's three against Alaves.
Barca's record in their last six one-legged finals in umblemished, with the Catlans having seen off: Athletic Bilbao, Juventus, Sevilla, River Plate, Sevilla and Alaves.
This year, aside from his 29 league goals, his three in the cup and his six in the Champions League, Messi has already scored in a final. That strike came in the Spanish Super Cup, though his goal wasn't enough to prevent his side from going down 1-3 to Real Madrid.
