Leo Messi and Barcelona staged a divorce that finally didn't happen. Manchester City were attentive to what could have happened with the Argentine, who stayed at Barcelona in the end.
In the middle of the whirlpool because of Messi's fax, in which he requested to leave Barcelona, City reportedly submitted an offer to Barcelona to sign the number 10.
However, 'Mundo Deportivo' were able to confirm that the supposed offer by Manchester City never existed. Sources close to the club have reportedly denied the offer to the media source.
The Swiss magazine 'L'Illustré' leaked that Txiki Begiristain sent on 26th August, in a letter form, an offer of 200 million euros for Messi in two installments. The first 100 paid in August 2020 and the other 100 in August 2021.
This was reportedly joined by a 20 million euro bonus if Manchester City won the Champions League, a feat that the Etihad side haven't achieved yet.
Barcelona reportedly sharply declined Manchester City's offer. Barca weren't willing to sell their star for a price lower than the 700 million euros.
The aforementioned source assured that Messi had already reportedly reached an agreement with Manchester City. The number 10 would arrive at the English side for three seasons at a rate of 44 million euros a year. But 'Mundo Deportivo' assure that this offer never existed.
Messi, in the interview in which he announced he was staying at Barcelona, left some criticism towards Josep Maria Bartomeu.
Once the situation ended, the forward carried out the PCR tests at home and trained alone until Wednesday, the day when he joined the rest of his teammates.
