Mbappé hails Xabi Alonso's hunger for success

Taking advantage of the international break, Kylian Mbappe gave an interview to the German newspaper 'Bild', in which he looked back on his debut in the shirt of Real Madrid. The French striker notably praised the ambition of Xabi Alonso, the new coach of the Madrid club, of whom he said he had "an excellent impression". For him, the former Spanish midfielder is "someone who wants to succeed" and "who knows the club perfectly".
Determined to make history in his second season in Madrid, Mbappe was clear about his ambitions: "To win trophies." Buoyed by a successful start to the season with three wins in as many matchdays, he called for no let-up: "We must continue to work, because we know how difficult it is to win trophies."
When asked about his favourite to win the Champions League, the Frenchman didn't hesitate: "I always say Real Madrid." But after a last season marked by several setbacks against Barca, he knows that his team will have to raise its level: "We have learned a lot from last season, but it is time to show it."
Having scored a goal in France's victory against Ukraine (0-2) for his debut in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Mbappe reiterated the importance of this season, both at club and international level. "This season is very important for the club, but we are also heading towards the World Cup. It is therefore crucial for all the players who want to go there, including me."
Finally, he mentioned past contacts with German clubs before his arrival at PSG, revealing that Bayern, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig were interested in him when he was still playing at Monaco. "Bayern came looking for me when I was a bit younger and could leave Monaco. Borussia Dortmund asked, and so did RB Leipzig. Those are just the three clubs I remember."
