Mbappe, the main contender to captain France

Raphael Varane confirmed his retirement from the French national team for good on Thursday. Hugo Lloris and Steve Mandada also retired a few months ago.

As a result, France are considering a new captain for the national team. Kylian Mbappe is the main contender to be the new captain along with Marquinhos. Both footballers play for Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain.

If the captain were to be chosen on the number of international matches for France, the order would be as follows: Giroud (120), Griezmann (117), Mbappe (66) and Kimpembe (28).

However, these issues are not discussed by the number of games played or seniority in the French team. For this reason, Mbappe is the main contender.

Controversy at PSG

According to 'RCM Sport', this same issue has already been discussed at Paris Saint-Germain and there has also been controversy. The board want to take the captaincy away from Marquinhos and give it to Mbappe.

The French striker is very important in PSG's projects and could be renewed for another season. Mbappe is currently the second captain of the French team.
