"I am in a very important moment in my career, it is my first or second turning point. I have discovered many things in my team, maybe it is the moment to take more responsability. I hope it is at PSG which would something nice or maybe elsewhere in a new proyect," Mbappe said during the UNFP prize ceremony.
'RMC' reported afterwards that Mbappe's speech was not looking to leave, but more to become more important at the club. Tired of being in Neymar's shadow, the Frenchman wants to have the media attention and be the one who leads the side from this season.
Without wasting any time, PSG issued a statement which reiterated the contract Mbappe had at the club and led to optimism among the PSG fans. PSG are not considering letting the striker leave under any concept and counts on him to try and finally win the Champions League.
"The relationship between PSG and Kylian Mbappe has been very strong for two years and they will continue to be together next season. We have a shared ambition of making history in European football, the year in which PSG will celebrate its 50th anniversary. We hope to form a key part of history in out club and every player will be important and will always work together as a team," the statement said.
This Sunday, PSG start their defence of the French cron against Nimes and without Neymar. The Brazilian, insistent on not playing again until his departure is sorted out, was ruled out by coach Thomas Tuchel in the press conference: "He is coming back from an injury. He has trained individually and has not completed a week of training with the group. He is not ready for the match."
While Leonardo admits publicly that the sale of Neymar is "very advanced;" Kylian Mbappe has the opportunity of becoming the leader of PSG, something he demanded at the end of last season.
