Mbappe catches Henry, sets sights on Giroud's all-time France goal record

Kylian Mbappe's late goal against Ukraine saw him draw level with Thierry Henry as France's second all-time top goalscorer. The Bondy-born forward now has 51 goals, with Olivier Giroud top of the pile on 57.

France returned to action with Mbappe, as ever, on the scoresheet. The forward, in his first match for 'Les Bleus' since the Nations League finals, made his mark with a superb goal that saw him equal Henry in one particular record.

The Bondy native has now drawn level with the legend as the national team's second-highest goalscorer of all time, with 51 goals in 91 appearances. His next target is the experienced Giroud, who sits top of the rankings with 57 goals.

His goal came from a swift France attack to seal the match. In the 82nd minute, Tchouameni played a pass from his own half to Mbappe, who received the ball close to the opposition area. The number '10' shrugged off a defender with a single movement, feinted to shoot, and then quickly unleashed a right-footed shot past the goalkeeper.

Didier Deschamps' side began their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2-0 away win against Ukraine. Their next opponent is Iceland, a match in which 'Les Bleus' will look to continue their winning form, and Kylian Mbappe to continue his march towards the World Cup.
