The PSG star fired home a low drive to score France's fourth of the game against Croatia, not showing a hint of stage fright despite being just 19 years, six months and 23 days old at the time.
The finish made Mbappe the second youngest goalscorer in a World Cup final, beaten only by Pele, who was just 17 years, eight months and six days old when he scored twice for Brazil against Sweden sixty years ago.
The prodigious Mbappe also became the youngest player to play in and score in a World Cup final for France in the game, which he is unlikely to forget in a hurry.
However, Mbappe is only the third youngest player to play in a final in history, behind Pele and Bergomi (18 years, six months and 17 days).
