Unexpected setback for Getafe with 11 games to go in La Liga. Borja Mayoral, their top scorer, tore the meniscus in his left knee in the game against Las Palmas at the Coliseum.
According to journalist Gemma Santos, the estimated time out could be around two months. This is a huge blow for the Spanish team and also for the player, who had his objective set for March.
Mayoral was included in Luis de la Fuente's pre-list for the friendlies that the Spanish national team will play against Colombia and Brazil. Therefore, the coach will not be able to count on a player who will not be back in action until early May.
The 26-year-old is the second top goalscorer in La Liga with 15 goals, second only to Jude Bellingham. As if that wasn't enough, the striker is just one goal away from equalling a Getafe all-time record held by Enes Unal and Roberto Soldado, who are the only two players to have scored 16 goals in the Spanish top-flight in a single season.
