United saw their character tested to the max at Selhurst Park on Monday as they came from behind to defeat Crystal Palace, with Matic scoring the winner late on but the Serbian insists that a much-improved performance will be needed when Jurgen Klopp's men come to town.
"We have to do more if we want to win, as Liverpool is a team with great quality. We have to play better, but with the same character," the former Chelsea man told United's official website.
"We'll show the same character as we did (against Palace)... but we have to be honest... we have to play better, especially when you see our first half performance.
"It is obviously great to win game by game and when you have a match against Liverpool coming up, a big derby, it's important to go into that with a win."
The game is likely to prove key in the race for second place, with that spot currently occupied by United, who hold a two-point lead over Liverpool in third.
