Marcelo misses the rest of the La Liga season
We already knew that Marcelo was going to miss the league match against Alaves. However, Real Madrid's medical report revealed a fibrilar tear. Therefore, he will not play for the rest of the competition.
"Following the tests carried out today on Marcelo by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to his left adductor muscle. His recovery will continue to be assessed," the club statement read.
Clubs do not generally say how long their players will be out for, but he will be sidelined for at least two weeks. As the last match is on 19th July, the Brazilian will not play in La Liga again this season.
It has been an injury hit season for the Brazilian: it is the fifth time Marcelo has been out with a similar type of injury. The latest one was at the Benito Villamarin, just a few days before the pandemic suspended football.
Curiously, that injury meant he was going to miss the second leg of the Champions League tie with Man City. However, the fact it got postponed until 7th August means that he could be fit for that game. The Spanish side are 1-2 down from the first leg.
It is worth remembering that for that game, Real Madrid will definitely be without Sergio Ramos so Marcelo's absence will leave 'Los Blancos' short at the back.
