Marcelo in tears after breaking Luciano Sanchez' leg

The Copa Libertadores' return was eagerly awaited in a match against a Fluminense side with a host of big names. Felipe Melo, Ganso, German Cano, Marcelo... important players who could play a key role in the tie against Argentinos Juniors. But what Marcelo least expected was to be sent off at the Diego Armando Maradona. A deserved punishment for such a dangerous move, but it is clear from his reaction that there was no intentionality.

In the early stages of the second half and in an action on the wing, the Brazilian player tried to get out with the ball under pressure. As he looked for support on his left foot, he stamped on the leg of Luciano Sanchez, who was trying to win the ball back. Marcelo's foot in the tackle bent the Argentinos Juniors player's knee to such an extent that it left the dramatic image of the night... and probably of the year.

Marcelo, who was shown the red card, was shocked to see how his action had ended. Visibly affected, he left the pitch in tears.
