Gareth Bale did not want to miss the opportunity to shine in Zidane's return. The 'Cardiff Express', who was basically forgotten about by Santiago Solari, started the game and scored the second goal 15 minutes from time. In addition, he was assisted by Marcelo after a great move by the Brazilian.

The Welsh striker did not miss out on the first opportunity which the Frenchman gave him and he had a great game with lots of commitment and a good goal.

Come the end of the game, he had the satisfaction of doing everything he could on the pitch and of having been much more active than in other occasions, helping both in attack and in defence as well as participating more in the creative side of things. This combined vindication from Marcelo and Bale came just after a goal from Isco, who had not started a league game since last October and ended up hugging Zidane as well as receiving a large ovation from the home faithful.

With the deadline having already been broken and a calmer atmosphere around the Bernabeu, Marcelo got the ball and passed it to the Welshman who was on the edge of the box. Bale quickly controlled and set himself before shooting with his weaker foot, his right one. The shot was struck cleanly, but was perfectly placed. Bale's shot was aimed at the post and it found the inside of the goalkeeper's right post before finding the net.
