The passing of Diego Maradona continues to have repercussions in Argentina. After passing away on 25th November at 60 years old, various weeks later in his homeland they are still mourning the death of their best player.
Tributes are being paid all over the world, but the latest proposal by a female senator has surprised everyone. She suggested that the ex-player should be the next image on the 1,000-peso note.
The proposal presented in Congress by Norma Durango, senator of the Frente de Todos (FDT), suggests to the Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina the following: "That the printing of at least 50% of the total number of legal tender banknotes of 1,000 pesos or more to be printed during the year 2021 should bear the effigy of Diego Armando Maradona on one side and the moment of the second goal against England, scored in Mexico on 22nd June 1986, on the other".
The famous 'Hand of God', that iconic goal that Maradona scored against England in the 1986 World Cup. The senator of the province of La Pampa said that the legislators will make the final decision, who are expected to consider her proposal early next year.
