400 beds will be provided in the Marcaná stadium. The monumental Brazilian stadium has opened its doors on Saturday to become a field hospital in the fight against COVID-19.
The field hospital will not be in the stadium, but outside it. It was built in 38 days and from this Saturday, 170 of the 400 beds it will have will be already available.
The rest of the beds used will be delivered throughout the next week, up until Friday 15th May when all the available facilities will be able to be used.
The field hospital will have computers so that the patients there can converse with their relatives and friends telematically.
Another 2 field hospitals will be opened on Monday 11th May in Rio de Janeiro, which is the 2nd Brazilian state with the most victims alongside Sao Paulo.
