Team News
Manchester United: Ander Herrera is likely to be recalled to the United side following his hamstring injury. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is likely to make significant changes following Sunday's shocking 4-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park. Fred, Nemanja Matic, Romelu Lukaku are unlikely to play after particularly poor performances on Sunday. Phil Jones is also unlikely to play due to picking up a knock on Sunday. Luke Shaw is back after suspension, with his return likely to cause a shift in United's defence. Diogo Dalot will likely move across to the right with Victor Lindelof moving to centre back.
Manchester City: Kevin De Bruyne is unlikely to be available for the game following another injury in the 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend. However, City have serious quality in that area and are able to boast the likes of David and Bernardo Silva, with Phil Foden also an option for City after his good performance for City against Spurs. Fernandinho is also close to being available for selection, meaning Ilkay Gundogan could push forward for City. Vincent Kompany could be recalled for City after his performances in previous derbies, but with Nicolas Otamendi, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones all fit, he will have to fight for his place in the City team.
Managers' Thoughts
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on bouncing back and his role as United manager:
"I am confident in my team and myself, and I'll be ready to take this challenge on, When you go through bad results, you've still got to be confident enough to say 'this is the way we're going to do it'. We're planning ahead."
I'm in charge and I'm the one that's giving the players instructions on how we're going to play and it's my duty to get them performing better, but I'm sure we'll get a good response."
Pep Guardiola on Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez:
"We will see if (KDB) can play one or two more games and next season take care of him. We are going to speak with him, with the doctors and physios to make sure he is safe and fit. Thats what we are trying to do from now on
"Riyad will be with us next season, and the next one and the next one. I don’t need to speak with him - he will be with us next season. He knows and everybody knows there’s competition in the squad. He is happy, we are happy."
