According to 'The Sun' Manchester United want to sit down with Juan Mata this month to discuss a new contract, according to reports.
The 30-year-old is out of contract at the end of the year, meaning that foreign clubs will be able to sign the former Chelsea play maker on a pre-contract in January.
Despite not being a guaranteed starter each week, the club value his services and would like to see Mata stay.
Mata is keen to stay at United and the club aim to enter talks with him and his agent - father Juan senior - about a new deal.
The former Valencia player was the catalyst for Manchester United's comeback against Newcastle, scoring a well executed free-kick.
Mata has settled well in Manchester since moving from Chelsea in 2014 for £37million and owns a restaurant in the city.
Mata has scored 31 goals in 144 games since being signed by David Moyes.
