In an interesting game that saw Manchester United completely dominate, they came away with all three points and a ticket to the next round of the Europa League, as Partizan Belgrade didn't put up much of a fight!
Solskjaer named a strong and experienced side, with only four changes to the team who started the league game last weekend. And they started off pressing. Manchester United had a goal disallowed after Rashford took the ball on the back foot and passed it through to Martial, who put it in the back of the net, but he was miles offside and the flag went up. Goal disallowed.
The next action of the game was also a disallowed goal, but this time from Partizan, as Maguire gave the ball away to them, which allowed them to press, but the pass through to Sadiq was offside and therefore the goal did not count.
The first goal came in the 21st minute, after a few pieces of good play and shots from United. Youngster Mason Greenwood shone as he looked calm and collected and beat the keeper to put his team ahead. A strong pass from Rashford on the left side saw Greenwood's great finishing skill.
The second goal came shortly after, in the 32nd minute and what a goal it was from Martial! He had some great footwork, his first touch was excellent, his second even better and then he created a clinical finish, beating the keeper and slotted the ball into the bottom corner. A beautiful goal that filled United with confidence and doubled their lead.
An interesting stat also for United, as they have had a player in every matchday squad since 1937 who has been home-grown!
Half time arrived and Manchester United were 2-0 up in the Europa League game after a half which they had pretty much dominated all the way through! One of the best halves Manchester United have played this season and full of attack and drive! Everything Solskjaer wanted from his team.
Shortly into the second half, Marcus Rashford made the lead comfortable after he slammed the ball into the back of the net confidently, after a neat, calm pass from Ashley Young inside the box. From this point on it was all United and Partizan really struggled to come alive.
The full time whistle blew and the final score: Manchester United 3-0 Partizan Belgrade. Solskjaer must be happy with the way his team had performed, as they were a lot more of an attacking threat and showed a lot more dominance. A lot like the United of the old days and not the current United. A great win for the Red Devils to see them go top of their group and pass through to the knock out stages of the Europa League!
