Manchester United's last 10 club-record signings

Roy Keane (Nottingham Forest - 19/07/1993, £3.75m)
Sir Alex Ferguson signed the Irishman from Nottingham Forest for a fee which seems like pennies this day in age. Keane captained United for a number of years and won 12 major trophies during his time at the club.
Andy Cole (Newcastle United - 12/01/1995, £6million + Keith Gillespie)
Andy Cole broke Keane's record in a deal that saw winger Keith Gillespie go the other way. Cole scored 119 goals in 268 games for United won five Premier League titles and a Champions League, among other trophies
Jaap Stam (PSV Eindhoven - 01/07/1998, £10.75million)
Staam joined United and is thought to be one of the best defenders to ever play for the club. Apparently, he was so keen to sign that he did not accept his signing-on fee in order to speed up negotiations. He didn't last long as the club's record buy, however.
Dwight Yorke (Aston Villa - 20/08/1998, £12.6million)
Yorke broke the record set by Stam in the very same transfer window. The former Trinidad and Tobago international became a club icon, forming a formidable partnership with fellow record buy Andy Cole.
Ruud van Nistelrooy (PSV Eindhoven - 01/07/2001, £19million)
The Dutch striker was set to join United just one season earlier, but suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury that kept him out for a whole season. United gambled on the forward and will be happy they did so. The Dutchman become one of the club's record goal scorers, netting 150 times in 219 games.
Juan Sebastian Veron (Lazio - 21/07/2001, £28.1million)
Veron was one of the less successful buys. Injuries and a lack of form meant that the Argentine lasted just two years at Old Trafford, leaving for Chelsea for almost half the fee United paid.
Rio Ferdinand (Leeds United - 23/07/2002, £29.1million)
Rio Ferdinand, like most of United's record signings was a great success. He played over 300 times for the club, won six Premier League titles, three League Cups and a Champions League.
Dimitar Berbatov (Tottenham Hotspur - 01/09/2008, £30million)
The Bulgarian striker endured a mixed spell at United. He was often accused of being 'lazy' and probably too inconsistent. However, he produced moments of sheer brilliance and was the Premier League's top scorer in the 2010-11 season with United.
Juan Mata (Chelsea - 25/01/2014, £37.1million)
The Spaniard joined from Chelsea two years ago after falling out with Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge. The attacking midfielder remains a popular figure with the fans and players alike at Old Trafford, but may not be there much longer.
Angel Di Maria (Real Madrid - 26/08/2014, £59.7million)
Di Maria probably beats Veron in becoming Manchester United's worst record buy. The Argentinian spent just one season at the club, where he made 32 appearances and scored four goals. It seems that the winger had some sort of curse at Old Trafford, having shone at Madrid and current club PSG.
