TEAM NEWS
Manchester City
Between the wins over Bournemouth and Watford, Pep Guardiola made two changes, calling on Vincent Kompany and Riyad Mahrez. The two replaced John Stones and Kevin de Bruyne respectively.
Stones and De Bruyne are likely to remain unavailable against Schalke, as well as Fernandinho who is suffering from a muscle problem. Some good news for City - Fabian Delph should return from illness meaning Oleksandr Zinchenko could get a well-earned rest.
Otamendi won't be featuring in this second-leg after receiving a red card in the first. Kompany will retain his place alongside Laporte in central defence. Laporte, though, has only played one half's worth of football since the first-leg.
Aguero will almost definitely start for Man City, while Sane and Gabriel Jesus should sit just behind him in attack.
Schalke 04
The visitors will be without Daniele Caligiuri, after the star picked up a leg injury last week. He is expected to be out of action for around a month. Schopf won't be available so Weston McKennie should start on the right-wing, with Mendyl occupying the opposing position.
Oscar Mascarell is to undergo a late fitness test so there is doubt surrounding his place in the starting line-up. Stambouli should replace Jeffrey Bruma, while former City man Rabbi Matondo will also be amongst Schalke's selected squad.
MANAGERS' THOUGHTS
Pep Guardiola
“We are teenagers in this competition. That's how I feel. We push ourselves. Will not be happy if we don’t go through. We want it. The best way is to feel this kind of pressure. You have to dream, to point as high as possible.
“At same time, accept there are other teams thinking the same. We cannot deny how strong they are. We want to compete. We have to have the desire to compete and face them.
“In the first leg, we had Nico sent off, one goal in first few minutes… anything can happen in this competition. These kinds of situations take a lot of influence to control."
Domenico Tedesco
"We are obviously massive outsiders, but still have a small chance. We will need a special day. We deserve to be playing in the last 16 of the Champions League here.
"Ralf Fahrmann will play tomorrow. We have two good goalkeepers here. Ralf has earned this chance."
FORM GUIDE
DID YOU KNOW?
Manchester City have won the last three meetings between the two including a 5-1 win during the 1969-70 Cup Winners' Cup semi-final. This happens to be their only previous home meeting with Schalke.
Across all European competitions, City have only lost one of their previous 10 home matches against German sides. This occured in the 2013-14 Champions League group stage against Bayern Munich, which City lost 3-1.
Schalke's situation is rather the opposite, as they only have one win from their last six games against English sides. Their sole victory was 2-0 against Arsenal in October 2012.
