Manchester City v Chelsea: Preview and possible line-ups

We look ahead to a huge game at the top of the Premier League table as Manchester City aim to go top with a win against Chelsea.

Manchester City

Both Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne were rested against Everton on Wednesday and look set to return to the starting line-up today. Sergio Aguero was substituted during that win and looks likely to lead the line again against Chelsea. Bernardo Silva has started City's last two games so could be rested, meaning Leroy Sane could stay in the team. Since Benjamin Mendy is travelling around Europe with a knee injury, Aymeric Laporte, who scored against Everton, should start at left-back.

Higuain will spearhead Chelsea's attack, having found the net twice last time out against Huddersfield. Ross Barkley and Willian also impressed against the Terriers, and could feature again, while Antonio Rudiger looks set to return to the side in place of Andreas Christensen. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek again look unlikely to make the starting XI, with Maurizio Sarri's side currently boasting very few injuries.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on Gonzalo Higuain and Chelsea's tactics:

"When he drops he knows to play, he keeps the ball, he's got incredible movement and runs in behind, he's close in the box, he's a guy who doesn't need much to score a goal. He has incredible experience and is an exceptional striker,"

"As a spectator I try to figure out what the managers wants to do and if it works. I see Chelsea and I can understand what they want to do and they do it,"

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri on their 2-0 win over City in December and how to play against them this time round:

“Maybe we deserved to win in the second half, but we were very lucky in the first. In that match we defender very well as they only had three opportunities on goal, no more."

“We need to be very fast when we're recovering the ball. They are able to press really well and it's difficult to find a way out of that situation."

Chelsea haven't won in their last six Premier League away games against the 'Big Six', and have lost their last four meetings.

Manchester City have only scored four goals in their last five Premier League matches against Chelsea.

But they have scored at least twice in each of their last 14 Premier Leage home games.

Manchester City: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Laporte; De Bruyne, Fernandinho, D Silva; Sterling, Aguero, Sane.

Chelsea: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Alonso; Kante, Jorginho, Barkley; Willian, Higuain, Hazard.
