Kompany has suffered an injury prone campaign having only played in eight of City's matches in the latter stages of the season, leading to questions over his future at the Etihad.
Guardiola already has three other centre-back options in the form of Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi, but could be seeking out the youngster as a means of freshening up ahead of their bid to defend the Premier League title.
