Man Utd will have to 'hold their hands up' to City, says Schmeichel

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel managed to achieve the treble of winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in 1999 with the Red Devils.

The former goalkeeper admitted that Pep Guardiola's side are having a superb season and said Erik ten Hag's side will have "to hold their hands up to City" if they are to beat their record.

"It's been a long time since we did that in 1999. It was probably the best period of my professional life. Man City have been playing so well this season and actually having the chance, one more win away from that, has brought all that back.

"I can't remember having talked about it [the 1999 treble] as much as I have in the last two weeks. And if it's broken by Manchester City you just have to hold your hands up because they have been absolutely fantastic this year," he added.

"They have played the best football. Only going back to the semifinal at the Etihad, the first 45 minutes are probably the best half of football I have ever seen. It will be well deserved. But they've got to go past Inter Milan which is no easy task."
