Man United Women lose in first home game
Brooke Chaplen and Gemma Davison were the scorers, as a 10-man Reading condemned United to their first loss.
The FA Continental Tyres League Cup loss was witnessed by a record 4,835 crowd at Leigh Sports Village.
The visitors enjoyed the better first-half, with Kirsty Hanson hitting the bar twice, and Fara Williams forcing Chamberlain to make a top save.
Chaplen also had some penalty appeals waved away.
The visitors broke the deadlock 11 minutes into the second half, as Chaplen converted Davidson's saved rebound.
Reading had to play the last 26 minutes a man down as Molly Bartip received a red for a second bookable offence, but Davison's injury-time goal sealed the deal.
