Man City inflict Chelsea's worst ever PL defeat

Goals from Sterling and Gundogan as well as an Aguero hat-trick throw Sarri's future at Chelsea into even more doubt as his side fail to find the net.

Both teams came into this match with a lot to play for - City looked to put the pressure on Liverpool for the Premier League top spot, while Chelsea hoped to quash concerns surrounding Sarri's future as the club's manager.

However, Chelsea immediately found themselves a goal down when Raheem Sterling fired the reigning champions ahead after three minutes. Unfortunately for the London club, and for Maurizio Sarri, things only continued to get worse as Aguero made up for his earlier shocking miss by producing an absolutely stunning shot from distance to make it two for City.

Ross Barkley added to Chelsea's woes as his fatal mistake led to Chelsea's third. Unaware of Aguero lurking in the penalty area, Barkley attempted to pass back to his keeper but Aguero was there to intercept and push City's lead ahead to three.

Ilkay Gundogan fancied a piece of the action too as he picked the ball up at the edge of the area and fired it past Arrizabalaga to make it four for Man City and put Chelsea's chance of a consolation even further out of reach.

Chelsea managed to keep some spirit alive by coming up with a few chances in the first-half but Sarri's side was not able to capitalise and we entered the break with City firmly in the driving seat.

By the first-half's standards, the second was largely uneventful as Chelsea attempted to keep City's scoring at bay. Sergio Aguero came close to his hat-trick after heading a Kevin de Bruyne lay-off goalwards - only the crossbar denied him his third. Just moments later however, Raheem Sterling was brought down in the box by Cesar Azpilicueta and Aguero capitalised on the penalty for his hat-trick, making it five for Man City. He could have had four had he not missed a sitter earlier in the game.

Both sides made several substitutions, including Aguero who left the field to a standing ovation, as Chelsea hoped to breathe some life into their deflated team. This was futile however as Zinchenko fired a bullet of a cross into the area and Sterling diverted it goalwards, making it six for Manchester City as we approached full time.

Chelsea suffered their worst defeat in the club's Premier League history as Aguero's hat-trick drove his team to an emphatic victory which puts them above Liverpool in the league table with a goal difference of 10. If Sarri's future at Chelsea was not already in question, it certainly is now.
