Uruguay took on Japan in a friendly on Friday. The match was a special one for Fede Valverde, as he was captain of the national team for the first time. And it couldn't have gone better for him.
In the 38th minute, Valverde opened the scoring. The ball ended on the edge of the box as a cross from the left flank was deflected by Japan's defence. However, the Madrid midfielder's lovely volley hit the crossbar. made the most from the rebound and sent the ball into the net through a header.
He missed one, as the Uruguay national team wrote on social media, but not the second. The rebound fell to Fede Valverde again and, this time, he sent the ball into the net through a header.
This was the Madrid midfielder's 52nd appearance for the 'Celeste' and he scored his fifth goal for the national team. It couldn't have been a better debut as captain.
