Madrid return to training without recovering injured players

Madrid returned to training after enjoying a day off to rest from their Champions League opener against Stuttgart, completing the first of two sessions that Ancelotti will have to prepare for the domestic match against Espanyol, without recovering any of his four injured players.

Eduardo Camavinga, who suffered a sprained knee on the eve of the first official game of the season, remains on the sidelines with no prospect of a return.

David Alaba has been ruled out for longer after suffering a cruciate ligament tear in his left knee, as have Dani Ceballos and Brahim Diaz, the latest Real Madrid players to suffer injuries.

The Italian coach is unhappy with the way his team is looking and highlighted key tactical aspects that need to be corrected to find a better balance. He gave way to intense matches on a small pitch, with Vinicius in goal-scoring mode and Endrick and Arda Guler very active, as the club showed on their networks.

Ancelotti will decide in the last training session which starting line-up he will field against Espanyol. The presence of Militao at the same pace as his team-mates and also completing the matches, suggests that he no longer has discomfort in his right knee and could return to the starting line-up to allow Carvajal to return to the full-back position.
