Madrid lost their first game of the season

Real Madrid suffered their first defeat of the season, 3-2 to RB Leipzig, in their 17th game of the season, after 14 wins and two draws, to end the second best start in their history, without being able to surpass the 1928-29 campaign.

The 15 wins and one draw achieved in what is still the best start to a Madrid season in their history could not be surpassed by Carlo Ancelotti's team, who paid dearly for their rotations, the absence of key players such as Karim Benzema, Fede Valverde and Luka Modric and the lack of intensity due to their situation.

Already qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League, and with first place in the group to be confirmed on the final matchday when they host Celtic at the Santiago Bernabeu, Ancelotti's side showed a defensive weakness that they had not shown for almost six months.

Carlo Ancelotti's side have not conceded more than two goals in any of their last 23 matches since losing 4-3 to Manchester City in the first leg of their semi-final at the Etihad. 

This is the seventh time that Thibaut Courtois has conceded three goals in a UCL match for Real Madrid in 40 games played. He only conceded more in two games, against Ajax (1-4) and Manchester City (4-3).

Among the few positives to stand out in Real Madrid's game were the assists from Marco Asensio, who played his first start of the season and averaged a goal or assist every 54 minutes. And the role of Brazilian Vinicius Junior as an attacking reference point in the absence of Karim Benzema, who scored his eighth goal in a season in which he has already provided six assists.
