'Madrid? I think I'm going to renew with Chelsea'
A new call-up for Luis Enrique and the Spanish national team, the Chelsea left-back seems a constant for 'Lucho' despite constant speculation over his club future.
On the possibility of playing on the right rather than 'overbooking' the right side, Alonso made himself clear to 'AS': "My natural position is at left-back in a back four, but I have to be ready to help the team in whichever way the manager tells me."
"Madrid? I'm very happy at Chelsea, and the club must also be with me because, although I still have two years left on the contract, they have offered me an extension. We are talking about it and the talks to renew are already advanced. If everything goes well, I think I will renew before the end of this month", he added.
Although he sees it a difficult task to match the achievements of 'la Roja' over the last decade, Marcos Alonso trusts that Luis Enrique's team can challenge for titles.
"The coach wants us to defend with the ball, that is where we are. It is a job for the whole team, not just one line", he concluded.
