Looking towards the January transfer window, Real Madrid have added Piotr Zielinski - a Polish midfielder who has impressed in recent seasons at Napoli - to their list of targets. The 24-year-old was subject to interest from several of Europe's top clubs this summer, including Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.
Zielinski scored for his country against Italy on Friday in the inaugural UEFA Nations League, with the match finishing 1-1. His goal illustrated his playing style perfectly; the central midfielder has attacking qualities as well as clear defensive ability, and is seen by boss Carlo Ancelotti as one of the best box-to-box players in Europe. Last season, Zielinski netted seven times in 47 appearances across all competitions.
This year, he has already scored twice in just three matches. Zielinski was key for Maurizio Sarri and has continued his form under Ancelotti, while in Poland he has been given the captain's armband for the national team.
There could be a problem for 'Los Blancos', however, in obtaining Zielinski's signature. The Pole reportedly has a high release-clause in his contract of around €65m, as Napoli see the player as one of their most important and valuable assets. 'Gli Azzurri' will not let him leave without a fight.
