Madrid confirm Ceballos injury that will keep him out for nearly two months

Dani Ceballos was injured in the Copa del Rey clash against Real Sociedad and his gestures made it clear that it was more than just a scare. Real Madrid confirmed on Thursday in a medical statement that the midfielder had suffered a serious setback at a time when he was at his best.

"Following tests carried out today on Dani Ceballos by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the semimembranosus muscle affecting the tendon in his left hamstring. His recovery will be assessed."

The Sevillian will have to miss between five and eight La Liga games. To that must be added the first leg and second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Atlético Madrid, the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Real Sociedad and he would even be a doubt for a hypothetical quarter-final in Europe, as these will be played between 8 and 15 April.

It is not unreasonable to say that Dani Ceballos was at his best at Real Madrid. By the end of February he had already logged 1,518 minutes in 31 games, when his record stood at 1,905' in 46 matches in the 2022-23 campaign. Between injuries to other teammates and his good work, Carlo Ancelotti had put his faith in him again after a very difficult 2023-24 season for the Andalusian player.

At the end of March we will have the first international break of 2025 and Dani Ceballos was in the pools to be called up to the Spanish national team. He would have returned just two years after his last appearance, on 28 March 2023 in the defeat against Scotland (2-0), the first of two in the entire Luis de la Fuente era.
