Toko Ekambi (27) is on loan at Lyon from Villarreal, who didn't know if the French side would keep the forward because of the COVID-19 crisis and cancellation of Ligue 1.
The Lyon president assured that they would sign Ekambi on a permanent deal, but the condition for the buy to be compulsory was qualification for Europe, something they are used to but which didn't happen due to the system that the French season was decided by.
Thus, it now wouldn't be compulsory for the French side to buy the player, but Aulas will keep his word, judging by what he told the newspaper 'Le Progrès'. "The option to buy for Toko Ekambi will be exercised," he admitted.
Thus, Villareal will receive some 11 million euros, the sum which the option to buy is, although they already got 4 million for his loan.
Four million more could be added to these sums if the striker's performance is good, so the Villarreal could recoup the 18 million they invested in him.
