Lyon dodge three-market ban for a debt of 2,238 euros

Lyon have avoided a harsh punishment by FIFA. The French club, which was sanctioned without signing for the next three windows for a debt of 2,238 euros, has managed to avoid it completely after paying the transfer fee that was pending to be paid.

That is what has been reported by the newspaper 'L'Équipe', the media responsible for announcing this punishment hours before the club regularised its situation. A news that is a relief for a team that initially could not turn to the market until the winter of 2027.

The origin of the ban was a failure to comply with the stipulated deadline of 45 days to pay the transfer fee for Amin Sarr, who moved from Heerenveen to Lyon in January 2023. After the expiration of that time, the French side received a payment order on April 9th to pay the debt.

'Les Lions' confirmed to the aforementioned source that everything had been resolved after disbursing the amount that was outstanding: €2,238. In addition, Dutch side Heerenveen, affected by the situation, also contacted the French media outlet and told them that Lyon “have already fulfilled all their obligations”.
